Higher Education in Hungary

Hungary’s education system is mostly like other European countries. For higher education, they offer a total of 3 programs: Bachelor program, a Master’s program, and PhD program.

Admission Requirements for International Students

Undergraduate Admission

Hungary’s universities are open to international students. After completing a certain education level in their home country, a student can apply for higher education. Minimum requirements for an international student for a bachelor’s program:

  • 12 years of education or a diploma degree with  80%  academic marks.

Language Proficiency Requirements (minimum):

  • IELTS: 6.0 (No band less than 5.5)
  • TOEFL: 80 
  • PTE: 59 

Postgraduate Admission

For a Master's degree in Hungary, the following minimum requirements apply:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50–60% academic score.

Language Proficiency Requirements (minimum):

  • IELTS: 6.5–7.5 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL: 90
  • PTE: 68
  • MOI is also accepted 

PhD Admission Requirements

  • A Master’s degree is required to apply for a PhD program.
  • Minimum language proficiency:
  • IELTS:6.5
  • TOFEL: 72
  • PET: 50

One-tier Program

Normally, Bachelor's and Master's degrees are divided into separate programs. Integrated (one-tier) programs combine Bachelor's and Master's studies into a single program. These programs usually take 5 to 6 years (10-12 semesters) to complete. Students can directly earn a Master’s degree. No need to attend a separate bachelor's program.

Joint Master

An international student can enroll in 2 universities at the same time and can earn a double Master’s degree. Hungarian University provides this joint Master's opportunity along with other European Universities, such as Saarland University (Germany), Luleå Technical University (Sweden), Barcelona Tech (Spain), and Université de Lorraine (France)

Distance Learning

Nowadays, distance learning or online education is very popular. You can pursue any international degree that is available for distance learning in Hungary’s universities. Benefits of distance learning:
