Required Documents

​Applying for a study permit to Canada involves gathering several essential documents. Each document is crucial in demonstrating eligibility and preparedness for studying in Canada. Below is a detailed list of the required documents:

1. Letter of Acceptance

A formal letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada confirming admission to a specific program.

2. Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter (PAL/TAL)

Most students must include a special PAL/TAL letter with their study permit application. This letter comes from the province or area where they want to study. Usually, if you apply without this PAL or TAL, they will send your application back, and the fee is non-refundable.

3. Valid Passport or Travel Document

You need a passport or other travel documents that are not expired. Your passport or travel document is considered valid if it’s:

- legal

- not expired, and

- accepted by us (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada)

4. Proof of Support

You need to show proof of financial support. It means you have enough money to take care of yourself (and any family who comes with you) while living in Canada.

5. Letter of Explanation

This letter tells the visa officer about you and why you want to study in Canada.

6. Medical Examination

You might need a health check. This could be if you want to stay in Canada longer than six months. It's also required if you have recently been to some countries. And if you plan to work in specific jobs that need to protect people's health, you'll need one, too.

7. Character requirement

A document confirming no criminal record, obtained from each country or territory where the applicant has resided for six months or more since the age of 18.

8. Custodian Declaration (for Minors)

For applicants under 18 (or 19, depending on the province), a notarized declaration confirming that a responsible adult in Canada will act as a custodian during the study period is required. 

9. Digital Photograph

A recent passport-sized color photograph meeting specific dimensions and requirements set by the Canadian immigration authorities.
