Student Life in Australia

Experience vibrant cities, safe communities, outdoor adventures, and strong student support throughout your life in Australia.

Plane

To fly in Canada, you will need a photo identification issued by the federal, provincial, or territorial government or a foreign passport. All major cities have regularly scheduled flights to and from many places; however, if you wish to visit a small town or rural area, you must fly to the closest main airport before renting a car or taking a train/bus to your desired final stop.

Car

Car servicing is essential to owning and maintaining a safe and roadworthy vehicle. Regular maintenance also helps your car last longer, retain its resale value, and be as fuel-efficient as possible. The information in this article applies to traditional cars with combustion engines. If you have an electric vehicle or are interested in learning about the difference in service requirements, see our article "Top tips to maintain your EV."

Buses

Australia's extensive system of well-maintained highways makes it home to some of the world's most picturesque road drives. Long-distance drivers frequently pass through rest areas and service stations.

Public transport and tourist buses

Use public transit and hop-on, hop-off visitor buses to release the tension of getting around the city. Children usually pay lower prices for these reasonably priced services, which will get them around the main sites without parking. A few choices, like the City Circle Tram in Melbourne, are absolutely free! Weekly travel expenses are capped in Sydney, so you will never have to pay higher than the highest rate for the week,k regardless of the frequency of use of the transportation system. Getting around is made much easier with most transport vehicles, subways, trains, and trams, as most can fit prams and other necessities for accessibility.

Train

Great train rides abound in Australia, notably the Ghan and the Indian Pacific, which circumnavigate the continent, offering comfort and a feeling of nostalgic romanticism. The Indian Pacific stops in Broken Hill, Adelaide, and Kalgoorlie along its route between Sydney and Perth. The fabled Ghan travels between Adelaide and Darwin across Australia's Red Centre and the tropical Top End.

Ferry

With more trips during the weekend, the Spirit of Tasmania runs a nightly ferry service for people and cars between Geelong, Victoria's second-largest city, and Devonport, Tasmania. Twice a day, SeaLink boats link Cape Jervis in South Australia, about 108 km (67 miles) south of Adelaide, to Kangaroo Island. Major metropolitan cities also have ferry connections to link neighborhoods surrounding the harbor in Sydney, the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia, and the River Brisbane in Queensland.
