Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology

The MSc in Biotechnology program at the University of Copenhagen is a 2-year (120 ECTS) degree taught in English, designed to provide strong theoretical and practical skills in applied biotechnology and biochemistry.

Course Overview:

• Starts with a compulsory course "Big Data in Biotechnology"
• Combination of compulsory, restricted elective, and elective courses that allow students to customize their education based on biotechnological interests
• At least 30 ECTS credits must come from courses with experimental laboratory exercises
• Opportunities to do a "Project in Practice" in collaboration with companies or institutions, or study abroad as part of the elective courses
• The second year primarily focuses on the Master’s thesis (60 ECTS), which involves independent research aligned with specialized biotechnology fields
• Program emphasizes analytical skills, innovation, and collaboration with industry, preparing students for solving real-world biotechnological problems

Specific courses cover biological systems (plants, animals, microorganisms), biochemistry/organic chemistry, biotechnology methods, and data science applications to biotechnology. The program structure includes four study blocks per year, each block equivalent to nine weeks of study and 15 ECTS credits.
