MSC in Techno-Anthropology

The Master's program in Techno-Anthropology at Aalborg University is a cross-disciplinary two-year full-time program (120 ECTS) focused on the sociotechnical interplay among technologies, people, and organizations, with a strong emphasis on digital transformations.

Program description highlights:

• The first semester introduces the complexities of digital transformations and techno-anthropological theoretical perspectives, emphasizing social life on and with digital platforms, digital expert cultures, and emerging methods in digital, virtual, and computational anthropology.
• The second semester focuses on facilitating digital transformations, involving specific theories and approaches applied to digitalization processes, including digital methods to map controversies.
• Students engage in group projects and problem-based learning, applying anthropological and ethnographic research methods.
• The program prepares students to work in diverse professional settings, such as companies, political or civic organizations, consultancy firms, governmental offices, think tanks, NGOs, or universities.
• The final year includes a major fieldwork or professional project in an external setting and a master’s thesis that can extend the project work or explore new research.
• The teaching integrates anthropological theory and methods with technological insight, addressing how collaborations between technical experts and other stakeholders can promote sustainable innovation and responsible decision-making.

Graduates acquire competencies in analyzing techno-scientific cultures, contributing to sustainable technological innovation, and understanding how technology influences users and society.
