Program Overview

Enter a profession with high demand both in New Zealand and globally. Earn an internationally recognized degree from the only New Zealand university ranked in the top 50 for Education.
Our updated, hands-on program is designed to give you the skills needed to teach in modern classrooms, where building strong relationships, celebrating diversity, and integrating digital learning are essential. You’ll have the flexibility to choose courses from other disciplines across the university, allowing you to develop critical and ethical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills—key to success in the workforce. Topics include child development and more.
A unique aspect of the program is the Waipapa Taumata Rau course, which focuses on core knowledge relevant to our faculty, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the importance of place-based knowledge. This course is to be completed in your first year.
This program is highly practical. Each year includes an in-school practicum experience, where you'll spend dedicated time in various schools. During your practicum, you will be supported by experienced teachers and university staff.
In the first two years, you’ll have flexibility in scheduling your required teaching days. In the final year, you will complete 80 days of sustained teaching experience. This will allow you to build connections, gain critical skills, and prepare for a smooth transition into your teaching career.
As the highest-ranked university in New Zealand for Education, our graduates are in high demand. Many go on to teach in diverse settings both in New Zealand and abroad, but the program also provides transferable skills for a wide range of professions.
