Full time study
In each of the three years you take a mix of core anthropological papers and electives. Early years focus on foundational theory, methods and key debates in anthropology. Later years include advanced topics such as cultural analysis, ethnographic methods and specialised area studies.
Part time study
If you study part time, you would take fewer papers per semester and extend your completion time beyond three years. The same core requirements apply; you accumulate credits gradually while balancing study with other commitments.
Courses include (illustrative set of papers — check the official calendar for exact offerings):
• Introduction to Anthropology
• Cultural Theory and Practice
• Ethnographic Methods
• Global Societies and Identity
• Research Project in Anthropology
• Advanced Area Studies in Culture and Society
Completion requires progressing through levels of papers with increasing depth.
You generally need university entrance with qualifying secondary qualifications (e.g., NZQA University Entrance or equivalent). Specific subject prerequisites are usually flexible for social sciences degrees.
IELTS - Common entry level is 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 (confirm exact requirement with enrolment team).
PTE - Equivalent PTE academic score is typically around 50–58 (depending on degree). Confirm with admissions.
TOEFL - iBT TOEFL usually requires a score of 80+ with writing component at minimum levels.
