📘 Program Overview

Get involved in the healthcare sector with this medically-orientated degree. Our biomedicine degree provides an ideal platform for careers in biology and biomedicine, including further postgraduate study.

Biomedicine is a branch of medical science that deals with the development of diagnostic modalities and treatments for current and emerging threats to human health. This programme imparts the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, cell biology and genetics, and on successful completion graduates will also be awarded a degree from Lancaster University.

🎯 Course & Curriculum

Course structure

Year 1 (Foundational biomedical sciences)
  • Covers core biomedical foundations such as Basic Biochemistry, Basic Genetics, Cell Biology, and Human Anatomy.
  • Builds scientific analysis skills through Basic Biostatistics, General Microbiology, and Clinical Chemistry.
  • Develops professional and study foundations with Ethics in Healthcare Science, Integrity and Anti-Corruption, and Research Methodology I.
  • Introduces AI with AI Foundation and Applications and builds readiness for career development through Entrepreneurial Mindset and Skills.
Year 2 (Applied health science + internship)
  • Expands applied health knowledge through Epidemiology & Public Health, Pathology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, and Pharmacology & Toxicology.
  • Develops data and systems skills with Bioinformatics and Essentials of Employability.
  • Includes Research Methodology II and a Clinical Placement/Internship to apply learning in healthcare settings.
  • Offers elective options in Year 2: Instrumental Analysis or Pharmaceutical Technology.
Year 3 (Clinical practice, research projects, and final electives)
  • Strengthens clinical diagnostics and laboratory learning via Clinical Biochemistry Practice, Haematology and Transfusion Science, Histology and Cytology, Immunology, and Molecular Diagnostics.
  • Runs two research components: Research Project 1 and Research Project 2.
  • Includes Clinical Placement/Internship and elective options for final-year direction: Current Topics in Biomedical Science, Healthcare Data Analytics, or Medical Entomology.
  • Adds non-academic learning for international students through Appreciation of Ethics and Civilisation and Malay Language for Communication 2.

Career outcomes

  • You graduate with biomedical science knowledge that supports careers in medical and diagnostic laboratory roles, including medical/diagnostic laboratory technicians.
  • You build a strong base for research-oriented pathways as a clinical research scientist, with hands-on research project work included in the degree.
  • The programme prepares you for biomedical scientist roles by covering core areas such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology & toxicology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • You gain subject preparation for careers connected to healthcare decision-making, including government healthcare policy-maker roles.
  • You are equipped for roles as a medical and pharmaceutical product specialist through clinically relevant biomedical topics and applied learning.
  • You keep your long-term options open for academia and postgraduate study because the degree is explicitly positioned as a platform for further postgraduate study.

Employability rate

For Malaysia-focused hiring demand in biomedicine and related life-science roles, graduates typically see an employability rate of about 82% and an unemployment rate of about 18%, reflecting steady but competitive selection for lab and healthcare-linked roles.

Together, these figures point to a generally stable outlook where your research, diagnostics, and applied internship exposure can improve your chances of landing roles in biomedical, diagnostic, and research environments.
