📝 How to Apply

1

Step 1: Eligibility check

Before submitting your PhD application, Sunway asks international applicants to read the programme details, entry requirements, commencement date, and fees. Sunway also requests that applicants confirm their eligibility before applying. Plan to submit your application documents and initial payment at least eight weeks before the intake date(s).

2

Step 2: Prepare documents and submit the application

International applicants must fill out and submit the International Student Application Form and attach the required documents. Sunway lists certified true copies of academic qualifications, an English language qualification where applicable, and passport documents for international applicants. Sunway also requires a research statement/statement of research interest as part of the application for by-research programmes.

3

Step 3: Pay required fees after eligibility confirmation

After your eligibility is confirmed, Sunway instructs you to proceed with the required payments. Sunway states that you must pay an enrolment fee and a student pass/visa processing fee paid to EMGS as part of the international student process. Follow Sunway’s payment instructions to avoid delays.

4

Step 4: Receive offer and complete student pass application

Successful applicants receive offer letters via email within the timeframe stated by Sunway. You must accept the offer as detailed in the Letter of Offer and sign and return the acceptance to the International Office. Sunway applies for the Malaysian Student Pass after receiving the signed acceptance, required documents, and payments.

5

Step 5: Visa approval and travel preparation

Sunway issues a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) once the student pass is approved, and the student VAL validity is stated by the university. Sunway advises that the Student Pass approval processing time can take several weeks after receipt of a complete application and payment. After approval, follow Sunway’s pre-travel checklist provided by the admission team.
