Program Overview

The Urban Design Master's program at Aalborg University is a 24-month, on-campus MSc program in Engineering focused on the context, function, and form of cities. It addresses major societal challenges such as climate change, sustainability, welfare, urban growth, and urban mobility. The program aims to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to work with complex urban issues from an integrated academic perspective that combines architectural, functional, technical, and social science aspects.

Students work practically and theoretically, engaging extensively with urban, architectural, and mobility theories. They develop a strong toolbox of both analogue and digital methods for analysis, design, and communication, including sketching, modeling, citizen involvement, ethnography, and simulation technologies.

The program encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and prepares graduates to play a role in shaping innovative, sustainable, and functional cities that meet future living conditions and support well-being and development.

This program offers opportunities for group work, excursions, research projects, collaborations with design studios and municipalities, and networking through seminars and events focused on urban design.

Admission requirements typically include a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture and proficiency in English.

Overall, the program combines creativity, technology, and teamwork to equip students to influence urban development and design in a practical and research-based learning environment.
