Program Overview

The Indoor Environmental and Energy Engineering Master’s program at Aalborg University is a 2-year, full-time English-taught program designed to educate engineers who create ideal indoor environments for work and leisure, focusing on individual well-being and comfort while minimizing energy consumption.

Key aspects of the program overview:

  • It addresses the fact that building construction and operation contribute to more than 40% of global energy use and material consumption.
  • The program equips students to reduce this energy use significantly through optimal building design, material choices, renewable energy utilization, and operational optimization.
  • The curriculum includes core topics such as ventilation, indoor climate, airflow, health, integrated design processes, passive solar energy, natural ventilation, advanced climate technical installations, and continuous energy systems.
  • The study combines lectures, laboratory work, project work, and real-world semester projects.
  • In the third semester, students may choose internships (local or international), study abroad, regular course work, or start their Master’s thesis.
  • The final semester is focused on the Master’s thesis where students apply their accumulated knowledge to research or development projects.
  • Graduates develop skills suitable for careers in energy-efficient buildings, alternative energy, indoor climate systems, heating plants, and ventilation systems.

This program emphasizes practical problem-solving, teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration to prepare students for challenges in the energy and environmental engineering sector.
