MSc in Building Energy Design

The course structure for the Building Energy Design MSc program at Aalborg University is organized over four semesters, totaling 120 ECTS credits. It combines coursework, project work, and a Master’s thesis with a focus on problem-based learning.

Here is an overview of the structure:

• 1st Semester: Focus on energy demand reduction and healthy indoor climate. Students learn to analyze indoor climate and explore energy demand reduction strategies.
• 2nd Semester: Concentration on ventilation, heating, and cooling systems in buildings. Students analyze and optimize these systems, considering finances and user comfort.
• 3rd Semester: Offers options to either continue with courses and project work at Aalborg University or start the Master’s thesis, spreading the thesis work over the 3rd and 4th semesters.
• 4th Semester: Dedicated to writing the Master’s thesis, which integrates knowledge and skills accumulated throughout the program. The thesis may involve developmental work, further development, or research.

Each semester includes a semester project where students work in groups on relevant and challenging industry-related problems. Collaboration with external businesses and organizations is encouraged to provide practical insight.
