📘 Program Overview

In Mechatronics (B.Sc.) at HAW Hamburg, you develop intelligent systems that combine mechanics, electronics and software, working in development teams across automotive and aerospace, mechanical engineering, automation, and start-ups. The programme strengthens your ability to design and develop mechatronic systems by linking technical innovation with structured problem-solving.

From the fourth semester, you deepen your knowledge of mechatronics and, from the fifth semester onwards, you tailor your studies to your interests through compulsory mechatronics modules plus freely selectable compulsory-elective modules or one of the specialisations. The programme includes deeper technical preparation and module-based specialisation that supports your later engineering direction.

Advanced studies and specialisations
  • From the fifth semester, you tailor your studies with compulsory mechatronics modules such as Mechatronic Design, Modelling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems, Embedded Systems, and Condition Monitoring and Machine Learning.
  • You can choose freely selectable compulsory-elective modules.
  • You can select one of two specialisations: Vehicle Mechatronics or Aircraft Systems Engineering.
  • Vehicle Mechatronics includes the modules Complete Vehicle Engineering, Powertrain Engineering and Chassis Engineering in the 5th semester, plus two further modules in the 6th semester.
  • Aircraft Systems Engineering includes the modules Aerodynamics of Airfoils and Wings, Aircraft Structures and Aircraft Systems in the 5th semester, plus two further modules in the 6th semester.
Practical module and thesis
  • In the seventh semester, you complete a ten-week practical module.
  • You conclude your studies with a Bachelor’s thesis.
  • The thesis is either in collaboration with a company or as part of a research project at HAW Hamburg.

Register and apply online within the application period

HAW Hamburg accepts only online applications for this Bachelor programme. Before you apply, you must register with Hochschulstart for the winter semester application process. During the application period (for the winter semester: 1 June to 15 July), complete the online application and upload the required documents. International applicants must also apply within this application period.

Complete international applicant preparation (foreign-qualification review and language proof)

International applicants must prepare a preliminary review documentation (VPD) via uni-assist as described in the international applicants guidance. The guidance also states that international applicants need to submit a language certificate and that the additional documents depend on the degree programme. Start preparations early because the preliminary review process takes time. Use the international applicants checklist to ensure you submit everything requested for your qualification type.
