Science and Health MRes
Medicine & Health
Overview

Have you enjoyed undertaking research during your degree? Are you thinking about doctoral (PhD) study or a career in a STEM business, industry, or academia? If so, our postgraduate Master's in Research (MRes) course will be a great start for you.

It aims to provide two key ingredients for early-career researchers: transferable research skills and expertise in their chosen subject. You'll undertake an original project with experienced supervisors, and join the day-to-day life of a research group.

You'll develop the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective researcher, and prepare a publication-quality manuscript, grant application, and conference presentation.

You can start this course in September or January (full-time only in January).

When you graduate, you'll do so with one of the following degrees,

Degree:M. Res.

You will experience a satisfying intellectual challenge within a productive research community, aided by supportive supervision.

Fees & Funding

In some cases, your study may be sponsored by a government organisation or a large company. This means that the organisation will pay your tuition fees (and sometimes your living costs), and may even be able to cover your deposit for you. In some cases, you might receive this sponsorship in the form of a scholarship.

There will usually be some terms and conditions, such as you returning to your home country after the course, or working for a particular organisation for a fixed time. You may be eligible for sponsorship for your undergraduate or postgraduate studies, but please verify the exact details with your sponsor.

Student loans are typically designed to help students cover educational expenses, such as tuition fees, course materials, and living costs. You'll be expected to pay these funds back at various repayment thresholds. There are no UK Government-backed loans available for international students. The UK Government confirmed in 2019 that EU, EEA, and Swiss nationals starting their course in the academic year 2021/22 and beyond will no longer be eligible for the tuition fee loan.

If you're an American national or a permanent resident in the US, you can apply for a US Federal Loan if you've accepted an offer to study here.
