Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Chemistry

Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Chemistry

Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

Duration

2 years

Intake

February & September

Degree

Master’s

Program Overview

The design of new sustainable processes, materials, and chemical products - such as catalysts and pharmaceuticals with tailored properties - requires an understanding of the synthesis and physical/chemical properties of substances, as well as the relationship between structure and properties.

The MSc programme provides you with broad knowledge of the design of advanced materials - at both theoretical and experimental level - through courses covering chemical bonding, structural characterization, synthesis methods, and production of such materials.

You will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies - either as part of the courses, as an individual project or while writing your thesis.

Specializations

The MSc Eng programme will make it possible to obtain a broad knowledge of chemistry and chemcal technology, and related fields. Alternatively, there is a possibility of specialization in four areas of high technological and scientific interest, specifically: (i) synthetic and biological macromolecules, (ii) catalysis and sustainable chemistry, (iii) pharmaceuticals and other complex organic molecules, and (iv) theoretical and physical chemistry at the atomic scale.

Beside the specializations, the programme includes education within a variety of disciplines like analytical-, materials-, femto-second- and structural chemistry based on advanced spectroscopic- and computational methods.
Programme provision

To obtain the MSc degree in Applied Chemistry the student must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Have passed Polytechnical foundation courses adding up to at least 10 ECTS
  • Have passed Programme specific courses adding up to at least 50 ECTS
  • Have performed a Master Thesis of 30 ECTS points within the field of the general program
  • Have passed a sufficient number of Elective courses to bring the total number of ECTS of the entire study to 120 ECTS
