At Bucerius Law School, the Jurastudium prepares you optimally for the First State Examination (Erstes Staatsexamen) and, in parallel, provides a first professional degree after three and a half years: the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).
The study programme is organised in three core phases: a foundation phase, a specialisation phase where you choose one of several Schwerpunktbereiche, and an examination-preparation programme (if you decide to take the First State Examination).

Course structure
- Introduction to legal foundations through courses such as GK BGB I, Grundl. Verfassungsrecht I, and Strafrecht I
- Early practical orientation via Law Clinic (Jur. Grundlagen Law Clinic) and the Einstieg ins Studium (ZSP/ZJL)
- Build core competencies in civil law with GK BGB II and administrative law foundations with Grundl. Verwaltungsrecht
- Continue civil law and constitutional foundations with GK BGB III and Grundl. Verfassungsrecht II
- Deepen criminal law with Strafrecht II and Strafrecht III while combining lectures and small-group teaching
- Introduce practical experience and skills through Law Clinic components (e.g., Jur. Grundlagen Law Clinic and Law Clinic Praxis)
- Advance legal special areas including Gesellschaftsrecht, Erbrecht, and Familienrecht
- Strengthen administrative law and procedural competence with Vert. Verwaltungsrecht II and Internationalisation/Process-related elements
- Complete a dedicated semester abroad as Auslandsstudium at a partner university worldwide
- Complete emphasis and specialisation studies (Schwerpunktstudium and Schwerpunktwahlveranstalt.)
- Write the Bachelorarbeit after the Bachelor-Vorbereitungsseminar and continue Schwerpunktstudium components
- Prepare for the exam with the Examensvorbereitungsprogramm and include the state mandatory examinations (Staatliche Pflichtfachprüfung)

📝 How to Apply
Create your application account and complete the online application form
Submit your application through the university’s online application system and complete your personal details and required information that supports the oral selection committee. The university states there is no pre-selection based on your online input and grades.
Upload required documents and handle equivalence proof (for international/foreign certificates)
For the written selection procedure, you upload copies of your school-leaving certificate documents. If you apply with a foreign/international qualification (including IB), you must additionally provide proof of equivalence to the German higher education entrance qualification with the average grade. The documents you upload do not have to be certified at upload stage; certified copies are required later if you receive an offer.
Pay the application fee (or request fee coverage) after submitting your application
After submitting your application, the university asks you to either pay the application fee within one week or apply for cost coverage by their alumni association. The fee is 40 EUR if you apply by 1 March and 80 EUR after 1 March. Payment methods can include PayPal, and the bank details are provided after submission.
Attend the two-step selection procedure
Step 1 is a written multiple-choice test for invited applicants. Step 2 is an oral selection procedure in person. If your English certificate is not available by the oral step for the start-in-that-year option, the university states that any admission may be postponed by one year.
