Software engineering graduates in Malaysia typically see an employability rate of around 78% and an unemployment rate of about 22%, reflecting strong demand for software development and IT implementation skills across industries.
Together, these figures point to a generally stable career outlook, especially for graduates who can demonstrate project work and practical software engineering competence.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| School-leaving qualifications (equivalent to 12th grade/upper secondary) | International students can be admitted with overseas qualifications that are equivalent to 12th Grade/A Level/HSC. The program page also lists acceptable science/ICT route qualifications such as STPM in the science stream, A-Level, UEC, and matriculation/foundation pathways, including mathematics and one science or ICT subject requirements where applicable. |
| Matriculation/Foundation or ICT-related diplomas (if accepted as equivalent) | If you apply with Matriculation/Foundation studies, you must meet the minimum CGPA requirement and have credit in Additional Mathematics or Mathematics and Science/ICT subject as specified. ICT-related diplomas may also be considered with a minimum CGPA requirement, and APU notes that credit in Additional Mathematics may be exempted under certain foundation offerings. |
| Mathematics preparation and pre-requisite module | For the degree programme, APU states that candidates need to complete a pre-requisite module in Further Mathematics (or equivalent) in the first semester of the degree programme based on the listed entry qualification routes. |
| Study area | Match possible? | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Software Engineering | Direct match | International applicants with qualifications equivalent to upper secondary science/ICT routes (including mathematics preparation) and/or ICT-related diplomas are considered based on APU’s published general admission requirements for this programme. |
International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency during the application process unless they qualify for an English exemption based on prior studies or documents submitted to APU. If you do not meet the required English level, you may be allowed to apply for a student visa on a conditional basis and enrol in an English Language Certification programme at APU on arrival in Malaysia, and then appear for an IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/MUET assessment.
MOI waiver details are not published for this programme. See the English test requirements above.

Check the programme admission requirements and select the intake date you plan to join. Prepare certified true copies of your academic qualifications, and include English proficiency evidence (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE) if required for your profile. Ensure your passport details match your academic documents, as this is required for visa application.
Complete the online application on APU’s international student application portal and upload the required documents. Clearly indicate the programme you are applying for and the intake date in your application. Submit your application within the published intake window shown by APU for this degree page or intake calendar.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will receive a Letter of Offer. To enable the university to submit your application for the student visa, APU requires the payment of RM 3,600 as pre-arrival application processing fees immediately along with the required documents for visa processing. After acceptance, provide the additional information and photographs required for the EMGS stage-1 submission.
Once your student pass process is underway, follow APU guidance for your next steps before travel. APU also advises that you should not enter Malaysia earlier than two weeks prior to the commencement date of your course. Plan your travel timing so you can complete airport arrival and immigration clearance processes smoothly.
