  • Advance digital signal and communication capabilities with Digital Signal Processing and Modern Communication Systems.
  • Develop advanced VLSI and electronics design depth using VLSI Design and Analogue Integrated Circuits & Systems.
  • Continue learning through Engineering Project Management and engineering design capability.
Internship and industry transition
  • Complete an Internship/Industrial Training for a minimum period of 16 weeks to prepare for the transition from classroom to workplace.
  • Apply engineering knowledge in a real-world setting and strengthen practical engineering judgement.
Final-year projects, engineering practice, and graduation modules
  • Complete final-year engineering modules designed for industry application, technological skills, and employability upon graduation.
  • Deliver engineering projects through Project Phase 1 (Investigation), Group Design Project 1, Project Phase 2 (Implementation), and Group Design Project 2.
  • Strengthen innovation and professional capability through Engineer in Society and related project work.
  • Apply specialised options such as Computer Systems Security and User Experience as part of the final-year module set.

Career outcomes

  • You can target roles like Computer System Engineer, Computer System Analyst, Computer Network Architect, and IT Engineer by graduating with a computer engineering curriculum covering core systems and networking.
  • You build practical skills for industry work in database administration, programming, and application engineering through applied computing and engineering modules.
  • You gain employability-focused project experience, including investigation and implementation project phases, so you leave with evidence of problem-solving and solutions development.
  • You strengthen career readiness through a minimum 16-week internship/industrial training, helping you transition from classroom learning to workplace expectations.
  • You develop specialisation-ready knowledge across security, user experience, microprocessor systems, and modern communication systems that map well to engineering roles in tech organisations.
  • You are prepared for both engineering and support roles such as Support Engineer and Electronic Engineer, giving you more options after graduation.

Employability rate

For computer engineering graduates in Malaysia, an estimated employability rate is around 82% and an estimated unemployment rate is around 18%, reflecting strong demand for software-adjacent and engineering skills alongside a competitive entry market.

Together, these figures point to a generally positive but skills-dependent outlook, where project and internship experience can meaningfully improve your job stability.

📝 How to Apply

1

Initiate your application and upload documents

Complete the APU online application and include certified true copies of your academic qualifications with English translation where applicable. Provide copies of your English language test results and clearly indicate the programme you are applying for and the intake date. APU advises starting the application 6–8 weeks before the scheduled intake, since visa processing normally takes 3–4 weeks.

2

Receive the Letter of Offer and confirm your enrolment

If you meet the eligibility criteria, APU issues a Letter of Offer. To confirm enrolment and allow the university to submit your student visa application, you must pay the pre-arrival application processing fee of RM 3,600 together with the required documents. APU states that the fee includes visa-related processing and APU/APIIT processing, and notes that it is non-refundable once the offer has been accepted.

3

Student pass processing through EMGS

After APU receives your complete documents and the required application fees, your student pass application is submitted to EMGS. APU indicates this may take about 2–3 weeks once complete documents and payment are provided. You are advised to avoid entering Malaysia during visa processing to prevent delays.

4

Prepare for arrival and medical screening

Once your visa approval is received, follow APU’s arrival guidance for international students. APU states you must undergo medical screening at EMGS appointed clinics within 7 days of arrival and submit your medical check-up slip to the university. APU also indicates health insurance is compulsory for international students.
